I don't know, man, it's up for grabs," said Kaster during Big 12 Media Days in Dallas a couple weeks ago. "Whomever can take it. It's going to be fun to watch during fall camp to see who wants it.The Red Raiders begin fall practice on Wednesday and three players, plus a dark horse figure to be in the mix at right tackle.
Redshirt freshman Justin Murphy (6-6, 297) appears to have the first shot at claiming the spot. Since his arrival coaches have complimented his performances in practice. He also started the Midland scrimmage with the first unit and was listed as the starter in the post spring depth chart.
Tech added some much needed depth for 2015 no matter how the depth chart shakes out with graduate transfer Emeka Okafor (6-5, 331), who played in 39 games without a start for the Cougars. Most of the coaches, including head coach Kliff Kingsbury are very familiar with what Okafor brings to the table after coaching in Houston.
Junior College transfer Paul Stawarz (6-5, 295) was a late addition to the 2015 signing class and has impressed since he arrived on campus earlier this summer.
The dark horse for the starting gig would be redshirt sophomore Poet Thomas (6-6, 330). Thomas played in just one game last season, but was listed as the backup coming out of spring. It also doesn't hurt he's familiar with the offense.
