Texas Tech Player to Watch vs. ISU: DeAndre Washington

RaiderPower.com selects Texas Tech running back DeAndre Washington as the player to watch in the upcoming Big 12 matchup with Iowa State. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (CT) at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock (Tex.).

The Texas Tech Player to Watch this week is DeAndre Washington. The senior running back has rushed for 514 yards and five touchdowns through five games this season on just 71 carries for an average of 7.2 yards per tote.  Dre has also caught 14 passes for 111 yards.

Perhaps more importantly, Texas Tech takes on Iowa State, an opponent Dre has put up monster numbers against in the past.

As a sophomore in 2013, he was one of three Red Raiders to rush for over 80 yards on the Cyclones in a 42-35 win, finishing with 88 and a score on the ground.

Last season, Dre turned in what is arguably the best all-around performance of his career, with 186 yards and a touchdown on the ground plus another 51 yards and a score receiving.

That being said, the Iowa State defense has allowed just 3.98 yards per rush and 148.8 yards per game which is pretty good.

The Cyclones, however, haven’t faced an offense even close to Texas Tech’s caliber yet this season and I expect a big game from Dre who needs just 79 rushing yards to pass Baron Batch for eighth on the Red Raiders’ all-time career rushing list.
