This week's player to watch when Texas Tech travels to Norman to take on No. 17 Oklahoma is Red Raider inside receiver Jakeem Grant.
The senior is in the midst of the best season of his career despite already cementing himself as one of the most prolific all-purpose players in program history.
Grant is currently in Tech's career top 10 list for receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, kickoff return yards and all-purpose yards. He also became the first Red Raider to ever run for a touchdown, catch a touchdown, return a kick for a touchdown and throw a touchdown pass in Red Raider history on this beauty right here against Arkansas.
This season Grant leads Tech in both receptions with 49 and receiving yards with 719, which is good enough for 8th in the nation.
Not only is Grant having a great senor season, but he also has a history of success against OU as he has caught a touchdown pass in each of the past two meetings.
In fact, back in 2013 in Norman, Grant set a career all-purpose yards record of 185 which stood until he produced 210 this season in the opener against Sam Houston State.
OU's newly appointed starting nickelback Will Johnson, a former junior college transfer who had a good game last week against Kansas State, will likely get first crack at Jakeem. I expect Kingsbury to exploit this matchup on Tech's opening possession and continually until OU adjusts which could lead to big games on the outside for Tony Brown, Devin Lauderdale and company, not to mention DeAndre Washington (pictured above) on the ground. Jakeem consistently beating Johnson in man coverage could be the key to success offensively Saturday in Norman and I expect him to have a big day.
