Texas Tech Redshirt Report

Some photos of and updates on some Texas Tech players who redshirted in 2015, including Lonzell Gilmore and Conner Dyer (pictured above). All pics were from the sideline of the Texas Bowl last week in Houston.

All of the following pics were shot by Dbltfarmer on the sideline of the Texas Bowl last week:

RS JR Dylan Cantrell

Note: Cantrell sat out the 2015 season but will now get to play his final two seasons alongside his Whitehouse HS compadre Patrick Mahomes. He's a big target Tech could use in this offense.

RS FR OL Trace Ellison

Note: Trace ran with the second team offense in every practice I saw. He's one of those OL Coach Hays seems to like who can play multiple positions, but I see him as a guard. I could see him being a 2-year starter or at least a major contributor before his career is done.

RS FR TE Evan McHugh

Note: I love this pic. It looks like the walk on has a mean streak. I also love this Lubbock native's (Cooper HS) prep highlights. He's listed at 6-2, 220 but I have stood next to him in practice and he's a pretty big dude. He definitely looks like a D1 player. I'll be interested to see how his career plays out.

RS FR OL Conner Dyer

Note: Conner Dyer was one of the most heavily recruited OL in the nation and was a major recruiting coup for the Red Raiders. He arrived a little light as far as weight then suffered a knee injury which required surgery. He probably will be held out of spring ball, but as you can see from the pic, he has put on some weight and I expect him to be a 2-3 year starter before he's done.

RS FR DE/LB Lonzell Gilmore

Note: Lonzell was one of my favorite recruits of the 2015 class personality wise and he had several schools after him late but chose to stick with Tech. Like Dyer he came in a little light and suffered an injury, his was a shoulder. You can see from the pic above he's much bigger than when he arrived on campus. Tech needs him to step up.

RS SO LB Mason Reed

Note: Technically, Reed redshirted in 2014, but I wanted to add him in here. He was an all-state, state champion game MVP LB/RB for tiny Cisco HS before walking on at Tech. I haven't heard much about him yet, but I like his HS tape and he was on the sideline. Maybe he'll be a diamond in the rough guy or at the very least a special teams standout.
