OL Yasir Durant Sets Official Visit to Texas Tech

Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep 2016 offensive lineman Yasir Durant talks upcoming visit plans, Texas Tech interest and overall recruitment. caught up with Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep offensive lineman Yasir Durant on Monday for an update on his recruitment. Durant is one of Texas Tech's top final recruiting targets as the Red Raiders look to finalize its robust 2016 class which already boasts 26 commitments, including four early enrolees. 

Durant, who helped Imhotep crush Erie Cathedral Prep 40-3 in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AAA state championship, is a mountain of a young man listed at 6-foot-7, 328 pounds on his high school roster. He plans on making an official visit to Texas Tech on Jan. 30.

The three-star prospect ranked as the No. 4 offensive tackle in Pennslyvania, No. 16 on the East Coast by answered questions via direct messages on Twitter. 

Raider Power: First off, when did you first hear from Tech, how long have they been recruiting you?

Durant: I think it was late November they first talked to me

Raider Power: Do you remember if they called you, contacted you on Twitter or what? And was it OL Coach Lee Hays who first contacted you?

Durant: Coach Hays came to my school the first time we talked.

Raider Power: Nice. What do you hear from coach? How does he see you fitting into the program?

Durant: He thinks I can come in and play right away and really be a good fit on the team.

Raider Power: I saw on a recent interview you are also taking an official to SDSU on Jan. 22? Is that right?

Durant: They reached out to me a couple weeks before Texas Tech first saw me. They think I'm a good fit for their system. That's all they really said to me.

Raider Power: Are you down to these two schools at this point or is Rutgers or anyone else in the mix?

Durant: Texas Tech, Rutgers, San Diego state. No order.

Raider Power: Do you have any plans to visit Rutgers before NSD?

Durant: I haven't decided yet. I would like to but I don't know if that'll happen.

Raider Power: What are you looking for in a program? Anything specific  you want to see or hear on these visits?

Durant: Just the environment and how I interact with the coaches .. Also academics is a big thing.

Raider Power: Do you know what you want to study, major in?

Durant: Mechanical engineering. 

Raider Power: Wow. That's impressive. Do you have a decision date or just seeing how it goes?

Durant: I'm just seeing how it goes , probably after my officials but before signing day
