Texas Tech Mock Offensive Depth Chart

A way too early prediction of Texas Tech's 2016 offensive depth chart.

  • The returning starters are QB Patrick Mahomes, WR Devin Lauderdale (assuming he returns in the fall), Ian Sadler, OL Justin Murphy, OL Baylen Brown and Reginald Davis.
  • Tech must replace one of its top RB's all-time and it's leading receiver and kick returner in program history, but my biggest concern may be with the offensive line. The Red Raiders lose All-Big 12 LT Le'Raven Clark and two other longtime starters in LG Alfredo Morales and C Jared Kaster.
  • I think Tech will field a strong offensive line next season, but right now it's anyone's guess how the pieces up front will fit together. Above is my initial shot at it.
  • RB appears loaded with talent as Demarcus Felton will be entering his third season in the program and former four-star prospect Corey Dauphine recently tweeted he's up to 210 pounds. Justin Stockton will likely still be used as a factor back for explosive misdirection plays. Then there's senior Quinton White who wasn't utilyzed as much down the stretch of the 2015 season.
  • The receivers corps is getting a major shot in the arm with the additions of junior college midterm enrollees Derrick Willies and DeQuan Bowman. I believe the 6-4, speedster Willies is a lock to start opposite Dylan Cantrell on the outside and that Bowman will challenge Cameron Batson for the starting gig inside at H, with Sadler returning at Y. Tony Brown, Jonathan Giles and Keke Coutee should all take a step forward and challenge for playing time.
  • The name to watch, and it's hardly a secret on this board, is Quan Shorts Quan Shorts, who redshirted in 2015. He'll be a household name among Tech fans midway through the 2016 season. The question is where? He is capable of playing every receiver position and has been moved around quite a bit.
