7-on-7: Jonte Manning Eval

Our next 7-on-7 eval highlights Corsicana's Jonte Manning, a free safety/outside linebacker prospect who possesses the size and speed that would typically have college coaches drooling. This kid's simply not getting that kind of attention, at least at this stage of the game, for the reason below. But first, here's what we learned in College Station:

Manning eyeballs at about 6-3, 200 and is about as fine looking a specimen as you'll find. That kind of size simply cannot be overlooked. Expect him to garner serious interest once he knocks out his SAT or ACT.

Aside from having the needed size, Manning also has impressive jets. He showed the ability to cover a lot of ground and do it in a hurry. This kid runs every bit the 4.5 speed he's listed at in the Texas Top 100 (No. 67 overall).

Playmaking: Watched him break up two passes and intercept a pass in one half of play. On the interception, he juked two kids out of their shoes before flying in for six. Kid has the athleticism necessary to make it as a college free safety, but is also an OLB spin-down candidate.

Bottom Line: Spoke with Manning about his immense talent and he said he understood how important qualifying is and that he's working hard to get that squared away. If he does exactly that, expect a lot of big-time schools to offer this kid on his size/speed/athleticism alone.
