Despite still being a sophomore, running back Craig Williams already possesses back-to-back 1,000-yard from scrimmage seasons, has scored 26 touchdowns and averaged an eye-popping 11.3 yards per carry last season.
No wonder he's been offered by the likes of Colorado, Illinois, Mississippi State and SMU. Recently, Texas Tech joined the party with an offer by phone.
Williams details how it went down and more in the following interview:
Raider Power: First off, how'd the offer go down and what was your reaction?
Williams: I gave Coach (Eric) Morris a call and we talked and he offered me. I was a little surprised because it was my first Big 12 conference offer.
Raider Power: Wait, had you talked before that?
Williams: No sir.
Raider Power: Wow, that's pretty amazing. How did you get his number?
Williams: One of my coaches at my school.
Raider Power: Coach (D.J.) Mann (Crosby's offensive and recruiting coordinator)?
Williams: Yes sir.
Raider Power: So what did Coach Morris say about how he sees you fitting in the program, what he likes about your game?
Williams: He liked that I could do different things such as not only take the ball out of the backfield but also things like being able to get in the slot and catch the ball in the open field
Raider Power: Did he offer you as a RB,inside receiver, athlete or did he say?
Williams: He didn't say but I'm primarily a RB.
Raider Power: What do you know about Tech, what's your impression of the program and school?
Williams: I know that there's a misconception of Texas tech throwing the ball a lot when they've had the leading rusher this past year. It's a great program, they've done some big things and it's somewhere I can see myself playing at the next level.
Raider Power: Do you have any plans to visit or camp with Tech this offseason?
Williams: Yes sir, I plan on making arrangements to take an unofficial visit up there.
Raider Power: You said you want to visit Tech sometime this offseason. Where else are you looking to visit?
Williams: Yes, I'm making arrangements to try and visit this offseason and Mississippi State in the summer.
Raider Power: Scout also has you listed at 5-10, 170. Is that right?
Williams: Yes sir, that's right.
Raider Power: I know it's still early in the process, but what are you looking for in a school and program?
Williams: A school that's going to pay for college tuition (Free Education). That's pretty much it right now I'd have to give other characteristics more thoughts.
Raider Power: That's fair. Hey, I forgot to ask. What's your 40 time?
Raider Power: Thanks. Is there anything I'm missing or anything you'd like to add about Tech or the offer?
Williams: No sir.
Raider Power: Thanks for your time and congrats on all your success.
