Round Rock defensive lineman James Lynch has been on Texas Tech's radar for some time now, but the Red Raiders have ramped up their efforts recently.
One of those reasons is undoubtedly due to Lynch's MVP performance at Nike's The Opening regional camp in Dallas back in March, where one of his opponents was Texas Tech blue chip offensive lineman commit Jack Anderson.
Lynch, 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, detailed his visit to Texas Tech over the weekend and his experience at The Opening in the interview below.
Raider Power: First off, how'd the visit go overall? What stood out the most about the visit?
Lynch: The visit overall was awesome. the thing that stood out the most to me was the overall intensity of the practice which was very high.
Raider Power: Who did you travel with and what did they think of the visit, campus, Lubbock, etc.?
Lynch: I traveled with my mom and dad to Lubbock by car, we all thought the campus was awesome!
Raider Power: How long has Tech been recruiting you and who is leading your recruitment?
Lynch: Tech has been recruiting me for a while but recently have been recruiting me more seriously.
Raider Power: I saw you turned in a fantastic performance at the Dallas Opening regional. Describe the experience and what winning DL MVP was like.
Lynch: Winning the DL MVP was awesome, I was just proud of myself that I showed what I could do knowing I was on a big stage against very impressive players.
Raider Power: I noticed you faced off with Tech commit Jack Anderson during the Opening. Can you describe some of those battles and what he's like as an opponent.
Lynch: Yes I did go against Jack, and I definitely feel I did good against him, and he is a great competitor.
Raider Power: Which coach do you hear from the most?
Lynch: Coach (Kevin) Patrick, the DL coach.
Raider Power: What's your impression of him? How does he see you fitting into the system?
Lynch: I really like coach Patrick, he sees me playing on the inside of DL.
Raider Power: Did Patrick talk about an offer in the future and did he say if they plan on coming out to spring ball?
Lynch: Patrick said he was interested in me and yes he will be down for spring ball.
Raider Power: Where do you stand with Tech after the visit?
Lynch: Tech definitely sparked my interest after my visit.
Raider Power: What other schools are you hearing from and what are you looking for in a school and program?
Lynch: I'm hearing lots of schools in Texas and then also Nebraska, Duke and Nevada. I'm looking for a program I feel I fit in that's simply it. A program where I feel I should be.
Raider Power: Alright. That's great stuff. Is there anything I'm missing about the visit Tech or your overall recruitment? Anything you'd like to add?
Lynch: No, I think you covered most of it.
Raider Power: Thanks for your time and congrats on all your success.
Lynch: Thank you.
