Flower Mound (Tex.) Marcus cornerback Matt Hankins' list of offers keeps growing, but he says he’s taking the process one step at a time.
Last week the 6-foot, 158-pound Scout three-star prospect received a call from Texas Tech cornerbacks coach Karl Scott who extended him an offer to play for the Red Raiders.
“I was very excited to have my second Big 12 offer,” Hankins said.
His offer list is in the double digits but Hankins added another Power 5 school to his list that includes Kansas, Missouri, Duke, and Colorado. He also has offers from SMU, Colorado State, North Texas and UTSA.
The Red Raiders’ “very explosive offense” stands out to Hankins, but he added they “could use some help on the defense.” That could mean early playing time for the No. 4 cornerback in the Lone Star State, which does interest him.
During his junior season Hankins totaled 33 tackles, two interceptions, and 13 pass breakups for a 10-2 Marcus squad which reached the second round of Texas Class 6A Division II state playoffs
Texas Tech is even with all the other schools on the list for Hankins, who said once he builds relationships with coaches he will go from there. As of now the relationship with the Tech staff is fresh having only been in communication with Hankins for three weeks.
“Right now it’s good, but the more we talk the better it will get,” Hankins said.
Hankins has no visits planned as of now, but he said that a trip to Lubbock is a possibility in the future. For now, he is just enjoying the process and said he is thankful for all the offers he has received thus far.
“I’m truly blessed and I give all the glory to God,” he said.
