Auburndale Florida all-state point guard Keon Clergeot confirmed with Raider Power on Tuesday he's on board with new basketball coach Chris Beard.
Clergeot averaged 26.5 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals per outing as a senior which garnered him several accolades including FABC Class 6A first-team all-state honors, various all-star team selections and is even having his No. 4 jersey retired by the school.
"I just want to thank God for everything he has done for me and my family that supported me," said Clergeot on Tuesday when asked about all of his achievements. "I always go on the court and give it all I got."
The Scout three-star prospect signed with Texas Tech during the early signing period back in October, but since Tubby Smith's departure to Memphis and Chris Beard's hiring a couple weeks ago his status with the Red Raiders was in question. Fast forward to Tuesday evening and Clergeot tweeted this shortly before telling Raider Power the following:
"I have talked to Coach Beard and we had a great conversation. He actually came and saw me last week to watch me work out. And it was great."
Clergeot admitted when asked he was upset at the news Tubby was leaving Lubbock but quickly shrugged it off. He added he hasn't heard from Smith since the veteran coach left.
Clergeot said he plans on reporting to Tech on June 5th.
