Raider Power caught up with Texas Tech 2016 defensive tackle signee Nicholas McCann for a final update before he reports to the Red Raiders on June 5th.
McCann, a Scout three-star prospect rated as the No. 2 defensive tackle in Arkansas and No. 28 in the south, has been hitting the weights hard this offseason. He's up to 315 pounds and reported maxes of 360 pounds on the bench, 600 squats and 625 dead lift. But added, "Usually when I max out my coach puts weight on there without me knowing and I just do it."
McCann also recently helped Arkansas High School claim its fourth consecutive 6A track and field state title by finishing fourth and seventh in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Given the fact Tech lost almost all of its defensive linemen from last season McCann knows many of the defensive linemen from the 2016 class will be called upon next season to play a lot, including him and added he relishes the opportunity to step up.
"Yes sir I'm ready for the challenge and I know it will be hard and I'll have to put the work in but I'm ready for it. I'm used to being thrown in situations where my coaches need me to perform and I do just that. I like the pressure so that's why I think I'm ready for it."
A talented chef, with experience and originally taught by his grandmother, McCann plans on studying restaurant hotel institutional management
