Brinkley projects as LB/DE on the D-1 level, but is currently playing the SAM for Reedley. Last year, he registered 58 stops, 2 sacks, 4 FFs, and 2 INTs, taking one of them back for six.
Although he claims to be wide-open, he rattled off a top five for RP.
Of those five, Texas Tech and West Virginia are the only two schools to offer the 6-3, 225-pound standout.
"USC has offered too, but it's conditional."
While West Virginia is offering Brinkley as a DE, Texas Tech is looking at him as an LB.
"I want to play linebacker...I'd rather play linebacker..."
As far as a true favorite is concerned, Brinkley said he actually has a couple of schools in his head, but said he's still considering everybody.
Asked if Tech's recruitment of teammates (DL) Campbell and (QB) Johnson provides the Red Raiders any extra consideration, Brinkley said: "I just want to play football. I wouldn't mind playing with those guys, but I'll go alone. I'll go to any school. Playing football is all I'm really worried about."
Thoughts on the Texas Tech?
"I like what their coaches are telling me," said the linebacker claiming to run a blistering 4.5 (40). "I'm definitely looking at Texas Tech. I know they have a good program and they're in the Big 12."
