The Woodlands DE Has a Favorite

With the Red Raiders in need of defensive linemen in this year's recruiting class, they have marked The Woodlands DE Kevin Mims as one of their targets.

Kevin Mims, attended summer camps at Texas Tech, Baylor, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Stanford and Texas A&M. Posting a 4.9 forty time and an eye-popping 4.09 twenty-yard shuttle at the Tech summer camp, he proved he had the all/more-important "quickness" despite the average forty clocking.

The edge rusher also has a great frame measuring 6-4 and weighing 250 pounds. He claims a max bench of 275, a squat of 480 and a power-clean of 270.

As a junior, the Greater Houston senior-to-be logged 44 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 3 knocked down passes and 1 interception.

The district 15-5A pass rusher said, "Texas Tech, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Texas A&M and Arizona." The Woodlands product also told RP he currently has written offers from Texas Tech, Northwestern and Arizona. He states while Arizona is recruiting him the hardest, the Texas Tech coaches have told him that they need him the most.

Jason Williams: Where does Texas Tech rank in your group of favorites?

Kevin Mims: At this time, Tech would be No. 1.

JW: What are your thoughts on Tech?

KM: I really like them. I love the enthusiasm of the coaching staff and their style. They remind me of my high school coaches and I like that.

JW: What did you think when you received your offer from Texas Tech?

KM: I was pumped! I was really happy when I received my offer in May because Texas Tech is close to home and they play in the best conference in the nation -- the Big 12.

FYI: Mims said he'll take (a total of) three official visits in the fall and will make his decision in December when his senior season ends.
