Bimage Recaps 'Great' Texas Tech Visit

Brenham linebacker Marqez Bimage discusses how his recent visit to Texas Tech went.

It's a cliche, but the phrase "roll out the red carpet" applies for how Texas Tech entertained Brenham linebacker Marqez Bimage, one of the coaching staff's top targets of the 2017 class, during an unofficial visit earlier this month.

Apparently it worked.

"It was great not what I expected," Bimage said. "I visited the dorms, watched workouts, talked to every coach on the staff, visited the stadium. I even personally met with the athletic director."

When asked what was unexpected about the visit the 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker said, "I wasn't expecting to see how nice the university was was. There's no such thing as the "desert" when you're on campus."

Who gave him the idea Texas Tech was a desert?

"I mean I've been told numerous times that Lubbock's a desert. That's just not the case," Bimage said.

Meeting Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt made an impression on Bimage as did the presentation of the new sports performance center and upgraded facilities.

"I met the athletic director in his office on top of the stadium and he seems like a good guy," Bimage said. "The facilities were impressive. there were tons of renovations going on and they looked impressive."

Bimage, rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 9 outside linebacker in Texas by Scout, said he would play rush end for Tech and added defensive line coach Kevin Patrick perhaps made the biggest impression on him, "He seems like he'll jump on someone's (butt)". But, Bimage said he met practically the entire defensive line, including Breiden Fehoko and got to hang out with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes some.

After the great visit to Lubbock where does Bimage stand with the Red Raiders? Well, Bimage holds offers from Tech, LSU, Cal and Kansas State among others, but is still committed to Houston. In fact, when pressed Bimage confirmed he's still solid with the Cougars.

Many believe Texas Tech and LSU, who offered earlier this month, each have a legitimate shot of flipping the linebacker. It sounds as if Bimage's visit certainly helped the Red Raiders' chances.
