LA DE setting up official visits

Shreveport, Louisiana DE Chris Bowers is one of the Red Raiders top defensive targets for their '04 recruiting class. The Evangel Christian high school star has been preparing for his senior campaign by working hard in fall practices to improve his pass rushing skills and quickness.

And, it appears the hard work is already paying off as Bowers logged an impressive four sacks in only two quarters of play in Evangel's first scrimmage.

When asked about his favorite teams at this point, the No. 19-ranked DE (nationally) listed Texas Tech, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Stanford and LSU in no particular order. All of these schools have officially offered the 6-3, 240 pound Louisiana prospect.

Thoughts on favorite schools?

Texas Tech: "I like the fact that I have some former high school teamates playing at Tech. Their coaches are really nice and I liked my unofficial visit I took there to see their spring game. I also really like the campus."

Nebraska: "I don't know a lot about them right now, but I like Coach Jamrog, their defensive line coach. He is a nice guy who knows a lot about football."

Ole Miss: "I just have a feeling about them. They have told me that they need defensive ends and I had a chance to play early if I signed with them."

Stanford: "I have taken an unofficial visit there and it was a really nice place, with an unbelievable campus."

LSU: "LSU is my home school, so I like them. They've shown a lot of interest in me and are recruiting me hard."

Recently, there have been some rumors that Ole Miss has taken a slight lead for Bowers. The three-star DE shot those down. "No, that is not true," Bowers told RP. "I have not even visited Ole Miss yet. All five schools are even right now."

Official visits?

"I've scheduled three official visits so far to Texas Tech, Nebraska and Ole Miss. I would like to take all five visits before I make my decision, but I have not decided if I will take just these three or all five before committing."

Bowers' planned official to Tech is scheduled for the October 4th weekend.
