Texas Tech added depth and a little insurance to its quarterback depth chart with Tyler Junior College three-star gunslinger McLane Carter's commitment announcement via Twitter on Sunday.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, the lefty who led Gilmer (TX) to an undefeated state title back in 2014, pulled the trigger while making an official visit to Tech. Carter threw for 3,226 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading the Tyler Junior College to a 5-4 record this past season.
Carter, who Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury recruited some and established a relationship with back in 2014, is Tech's second quarterback commit of the 2017 class, joining Cibolo Steele three-star prospect Xavier Martin. He is the Red Raiders' 16th overall pledge of the 2017 cycle and chose Tech over offers from UMass, Northern Colorado, Old Dominion and Southern Miss.
Carter has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
