It's crunch time for Mansfield Timberview outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid prospect David Anenih. The senior is fresh off his visit to Houston checking out Major Applewhite's program, and the 6-foot-3, 220-pound three-star recruit enjoyed his time in H-Town.
"It was pretty good. It was everything that I hoped for it to be, and I enjoyed it. I really liked the players, how they brought me in to build a relationship with the players."
Anenih is being hotly recruited by Texas Tech, who has prioritized him as one of the last overall prospects taken in the class of 2017. Anenih, who confirmed he would be officially visiting Texas Tech for the last weekend before National Signing Day, mentioned in the past possibly squeezing in a midweek visit to Baylor, who offered him last week. However, he does not think he will take the trip there now.
"I'm not too sure about that."
Anenih was first identified by Texas Tech's staff during the spring evaluation period after posting a sub-10.9 100-yard-dash. Defensive line coach Kevin Patrick is leading the charge for Anenih, and the two have built a solid relationship to date.
"He's been talking about how he's really excited to get me up to Texas Tech, and I'm also really excited. I've been planning this visit for a long time."
Where does the coach see Anenih fitting in on defense?
"He wants me to play that rush end spot, to rush the passer and make contact with the passer. I expect to play early."
Coach Patrick's work with Anenih has seemed to pay off as Texas Tech finds itself facing off against Houston for Anenih's services.
"They're definitely in my final two, down to Houston and Texas Tech. I saw Houston, so when I see Texas Tech I'll decide off of that."
The Metroplex prospect doesn't want to drag things out, and has a timeline in place for making a decision on where to attend school.
"Probably the Sunday or Monday before Signing Day."
Anenih holds offers from Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech, among others.
