Video: Texas Tech Spring Practice No. 5

Video clips and notes from Texas Tech's fifth practice this spring and first since returning from spring break.

NOTES FROM PRACTICE

Today was the fifth spring practice and there were no pads today but the media got to see warm ups, scrimmaging and turnover drills and a little more scrimmaging at the end. Here are some things that stood out to me today.

Starting OL:

  • Will Farrar
  • Terrance Steele
  • Jack Anderson
  • Bailey Smith
  • Travis Bruffey

Second String OL:

  • Jacob Hines
  • Dawson Deaton
  • John Gerold
  • Zach Adams
  • Will Farrar

Starting DL:

  • Broderick Washington
  • Mychelon Thomas
  • Eli Howard
  • Kolin Hill

Second String DL:

  • Nelson Mbanasor
  • Nick McCann
  • Noah Jones
  • Joe Wallace

Observations:

  • Patrick Mahomes was in the house watching practice.
  • Joe Wallace was participating in every phase of practice.
  • On both of his opportunities, WR Tony Brown dropped the ball. There were actually various ball security issues during the scrimmage portion.
  • The most impressive play was a great catch by JaDeion High which added a lot of energy to the practice. I didn't get it on video (of course) but photographer Steve Chapman told me he got a good shot of it, so stay tuned.
  • DaLeon Ward continued to look the most impressive at the running back position. Justin Stockton got one little outside catch.
  • Lonzell Gilmore was getting some reps with the 1s at defensive end. Looks like they were rotating a lot of guys in that group. Houston Miller is still getting reps with the 1s as well.
  • McLane Carter is still the #2 guy behind Nic Shimonek and looked pretty sharp today actually.
