JT Woods Recaps Texas Tech Visit

InsideTheRedRaiders.com caught up with Cibolo Steele defensive back JT Woods for the lowdown on his midweek visit to Texas Tech and overall recruitment.

Cibolo Steele High School has been a gold mine of talent for Texas Tech over the past few recruiting cycles, and the coaching staff is going back to the well once more in 2018. Multiple prospects from Steele visited the Spring Game at The Star in Frisco on April 1st, and one prospect who couldn't make it then due to Texas Relays took an unofficial on Thursday to Lubbock.

Defensive back JT Woods, who runs a laser-timed 4.62 40-yard dash at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, took the midweek visit to Tech.

"It went very well. I had a great time, it was a lot of fun. I got to talk to coach Scott and really get to know him a lot better than what I thought I already did. I loved practice and everything about it."

Woods broke down his visit.

"At first, I got there at like 10 o'clock and we just toured the school. We toured the academic hall. Then I got to watch practice. I had a meeting with coach Scott, and then I got to sit in on the team meeting that they had. It was a lot of fun."

The practice impressed the Central Texas defender.

"Today was their last practice of the spring. One of the drills that they did that I really liked, I don't know what they called it, but it was basically one person versus three and they were trying to get the bag. I thought that was really cool that they did a lot of competition, one-on-one stuff, trying to show the competitive aspect of the team. It was a lot of offense versus defense, competition. I really liked that."

Woods talked about meeting with defensive backs coach Karl Scott.

"He just broke down the scheme that the defense plays in. They play a lot of man coverage, stuff like that. Blitzes. They want versatile players, they don't just want guys that can only play one position."

No timeline for an offer was discussed, but the junior will be evaluated in-person later this month.

"He did say that he was coming down this spring this month to see how I do. He said he wants to see me in my element."

Much of what the defender saw at practice that Thursday was familiar.

"At Steele, we also play a lot of man coverage and the safeties come down a lot too. Some of the coverages they had out there we run, at a high school level. I think that I would easily fit in."

Some of Woods' friends from Steele got to meet with him while he was in Lubbock.

"I got to meet a lot of people that went to Steele. I talked to Antoine [Cox-Wesley], Xavier [Martin], Terence [Steele]. It was nice seeing some familiar faces."

With several FBS offers under his belt, and more programs showing interest, are any schools standing out at the moment?

"No sir, I couldn't really name any. There's no specific programs that are standing out."

Woods, who holds offers from Baylor and Houston among others, reports interest from TCU, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, and Notre Dame.
