NW Miss. DC Talks DL Prospects

Caught up with N.W. Mississippi defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd for a brief conversation to check in on three of his highly-regraded prospects and what their plans might be come the October 10th-12th weekend as Mike Leach and gang are setting up what has the makings of being a blockbuster event that could have every JUCO stud from Mississippi to California on the invite list for their game against Iowa State.

Raider Power has been all over the JUCO scene, so make sure you're checking the RP Club Recruiting Member's Only Forum regularly for Red Raider exclusive updates. Needless to say, we're on top of the D-line picture and for more on the N.W. Mississippi prospects, read below...

With offers extended to four Reedley JUCO standouts, make noi mistake about it, N.W. Mississippi's getting quite a bit of love from the Red Raider staff too, as they'd love to ink these three JUCO prospects: Rush End Terrence Smith, DE and DT Chris Herring.

"All three of those kids are pretty good," defensive coordinator Byrd told RP. "I think they're all great. They have offers from several big-time D-I programs."

Dean: With official visits already being set up, does Texas Tech have a good shot to get all three of them in October 10-12 weekend?

Byrd: Yes, sir. Those three are really close to each other and taking a trip to Lubbock together will be fun for them.

Dean: Do you guys have a bye that week?

Byrd: No we don't, but we play a Thursday night game and that'll give them the opportunity to go to Lubbock.

Dean: Do you think the Red Raiders have a good shot to sign all three?

Byrd: Well, you never know, but they're all going to Tech for an official visit and all three are really good friends, so I would say they have a good shot. I know they're close and would love to play together. But all of them have several offers and are being recruited by a lot of good schools.

In other words, Tech landing all three for an official visit is pretty amazing and that could be enough to put them over the top. Having said that, banking on all three to sign with Leach and Co. may be asking just a little too much. But if the Red Raiders could snag two of the three, they'd be pretty tickled.

Stay tuned to Raider Power as we'll have three updates, back-to-back-to-back, on the three N.W. Mississippi ballers...
