Texas Tech issued a defensive line offer last week to Oklahoma City Millwood defender Israel Antwine after an in-person evaluation. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle discussed how the offer went down.
"I met the Texas Tech defensive line coach at my school. I went into my coach's class, and we talked for a little bit. He wanted to get some of my information. Then later that day, my coach told me that I got an offer from Texas Tech. I was surprised and shocked, I was just like, 'wow'!"
A connection to a current player has Texas Tech high on Antwine's list.
"I'm very interested in Texas Tech because I have a friend that went to Texas Tech a few years ago, Cameron Batson. He plays receiver there. He came from Millwood, and because of that I'm really interested in Texas Tech."
So what did the defensive line coach tell Antwine about Texas Tech?
"Coach Jamison was telling me some good things. I learned that Lubbock is the third-largest city in the Big 12, and I was surprised to hear that and very impressed. He told me about the football program, that they have a very good program and they're looking for some good players."
The 2018 defender was excited about the prospect of playing at Texas Tech.
"It's definitely a shock and surprise to even get the opportunity. It's a blessing."
So what is Antwine's timeline like for making a decision?
"My dad and I are still discussing my decision, we're still talking about it. It's still early for me."
Could a visit to Texas Tech be in the works soon for the junior?
"Again, me and my dad are still discussing it, but it's a possibility that we may go out there for a visit."
What is Antwine looking for in a school at the next level?
"I'm looking for a good football program that will help me get to the pros."
Israel Antwine holds offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech, among others.
