Texas Tech hosted a 2018 defensive end over the weekend in 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect Spencer Trussell. Trussell was offered late last month after an in-person evaluation by defensive line coach Terrance Jamison.
"It was awesome. Family got to meet the coaches, they really like the coaches. The campus itself was really nice, it was beautiful. It was awesome, I liked it a lot."
Trussell discussed his experience on campus.
"We took a tour of the athletics facility, where the coaches' offices are, stuff like that. Saw the weight room, toured the stadium. Also, we went on campus to where the academic advisors are and got to meet them. We just basically toured the main parts of campus. That was basically it."
The junior defender got to meet with his primary recruiter, Terrance Jamison, while on the visit.
"Coach Jamison and I were talking about how the defensive line schemes are there and how they play. They want me to come play ball for them. They really like my film and they want me to play ball for the Red Raiders."
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury also met with the recruit.
"He was just talking about how the weather there is always perfect, and just talked about how they would like to have me there and build a relationship with us, how that is what matters the most when they recruit players - the relationship they build with the coaches."
The Hub City made an impression on the standout defensive end as well.
"On my way over there, there wasn't anything out there. But once we got into town, there was really a college-town feel, which I really liked. The people there were all friendly. Beautiful place, beautiful town. I could see myself there over the next four or five years, playing."
So what is Trussell's timeline for making a decision?
"I want to wait. The earliest I'll do it is when the season starts, see what other big opportunities open up. There's not anyone specific that I'm waiting on, I'm just waiting to see what other offers I get. As of right now, Tech is the biggest one I have and is the one I'm considering the most."
The junior confirmed that he will take a visit to Texas Tech during the season.
"I plan on going to a Tech game during the season, definitely."
Trussell holds offers from Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTSA, among others.
