Forney (TX) defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings picked up an offer from Texas Tech in April and has been hearing a lot from assistant coach Terrance Jamison since then.
Hutchins, who tallied 47 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks on defense plus 719 yards and six touchdowns rushing in 10 games last season as a junior, is set to visit Texas Tech on Friday. InsideTheRedRaiders.com caught up with Hutchins for a preview of his trip and an update on his overall recruitment.
Inside the Red Raiders: Hey Jaylon are you visiting Texas Tech this weekend?
Hutchings: Yes sir I will be visiting on Friday.
ITRR: Great. How long have you been hearing from Tech?
Hutchings: Ever since spring when coach (Terrance) Jamison came by to watch me workout during the (spring evaluation) period.
ITRR: We have you with offers from Arkansas State, HBU, K-State, Rice, SFA, SMU and Tech. Are we missing anybody?
Hutchings: Yes sir. I also have offers from New Mexico and UNT.
ITRR: What are you looking for on your visit to Tech?
Hutchings: On the visit I'm looking to see how the coaches are and the atmosphere, also to see how I would fit into their program.
ITRR: Who are you travelling with?
Hutchings: I will be traveling with my mom and little brother.
ITRR: What's your impression of Jamison and Tech?
Hutchings: I like coach Jamison, he's a real nice guy, very easy to talk to. I've never been to Tech so this will be a new experience for me.
ITRR: How does he see you fitting into the program?
Hutchings: He says I'll play over the center and sometimes play a 3 tech to rush the quarterback.
ITRR: Have you visited any of the other schools you have been offered by? IF so which schools? Any other planned visits?
Hutchings: I haven't visited any yet, Tech will be my first but I'm going to visit K-State June 16.
ITRR: What are you looking for in a school and program?
Hutchings: Haha, it was pretty fun, I had to play running back because our main running back got hurt with a knee injury in the third game so ever since I had to play a lot more. I played a little sophomore year but last year I played tons more.
ITRR: Do you know yet when you want to make a decision, commit to a school?
Hutchings: Late July is what I'm aiming for.
ITRR: Alright, great stuff. Is there anything I'm missing or anything you'd like to add about your recruitment or Tech?
Hutchings: No sir! I think that's it.
ITRR: Thanks for your time and safe travels!
Hutchings: No problem sir and thank you!
