Texas Tech Lands Italian Hoops Star Guard Davide Moretti

Italian hoops star combo guard Davide Moretti committed to Texas Tech on Saturday.

According to several sources, including Scout National Director of Basketball Recruiting, Evan Daniels, Italy's Davide Moretti has committed to play for Chris Beard at Texas Tech.

The 2017 combo guard is considered one of Italy's top young players and led the 18U national team to bronze in the FIBU European Championships last year by scoring 14.8 points and dishing out five assists per game. According to Italhoop.it, Moretti's expected to be the top player on the 19U Italian team in the FIBA U19 World Championship, which takes place in Egypt in early July. He also averaged 12.7 points and 2.2 assists for his professional team, Treviso Basket, last season.

Moretti chose the Red Raiders over a host of suitors, including a final four of Tech, Indiana, UCONN and Utah. He made a trip across the United States recently visiting his final four, including to Lubbock (TX) last weekend.

The 6-foot-2 guard is the seventh commitment of Texas Tech's 2017 class joining junior college transfer guards Hyron Edwards and Josh Webster as well as four high school standouts, including local Lubbock product Jarrett Culver, a versatile 6-5 wing/guard, 6-10 center Malik Ondigo, 6-9 forward Daniel Mading and 6-4 high-flying wing Zhaire Smith, who all already signed.

Moretti is expected to get to Texas Tech campus late summer after competing on the Italian national team.
