Brian Jones

Raider Power recently caught up with Texas Tech commitment Brian Jones to get an update on his season.

Brian Jones and the Everman Bulldogs have gotten off to a 1-1 start in their quest to repeat as 3A Division 1 champs, but how's Jones personally doing?

"I have played pretty good in our first two games this year, but we lost to Lawton, OK (Eisenhower) in our last game," Jones told Raider Power.

Exactly where on the D-line is the future Red Raider playing?

"I have been playing at defensive end this year because that's where my team needs me the most," said the 6-1, 270 pound lineman, "But I will be playing defensive tackle in college."

According to the Everman prep, he's logged 13 tackles and 2 sacks in his first two contests.

That's not too shabby. That said, is the early verbal still firmly committed to Mike Leach and Co.?

Jones told RP his commitment to Texas Tech is "real solid" and he has not received many phone calls from other schools since his commitment to the Red Raiders. He did, however, receive a call from one of the Kansas State coaches, but stated that they just talked about how his season was progressing.

The district 8-3A DE/DT plans on watching this weekend's tilt between Texas Tech and N.C. State on television because he's looking forward to watching the Red Raider D.

"I like the new defensive schemes that Texas Tech is using this year and I love the way that they swarm to the football," Jones said.

As for when Jones will make his official visit to Lubbock, he said it'll be after his season ends in December or he may decide on visiting sometime in the month of January.
