N.W. Mississippi DT "Wide Open"

Chris Herring, a 6- 2, 285, 4.7 DT/DE, is one of a quartet of potential Red Raiders being recruited from N.W. Mississippi Community College. These four players are set to visit Lubbock this weekend for the Iowa State game.

To date, Chris Herring has offers from many schools including Texas Tech, Nebraska, LSU and Mississippi State among others. Dates and places for his other four visits will probably not be resolved until his season is finished.

He currently has no favorites and is staying "wide open" as to recruiting, stating: "I will wait until after all my visits to decide any favorites or make my decision."

When asked since he is visiting with 3 other teammates, is this a "package deal", Herring told TheInsiders, "No, well maybe one or two - several of us would like to go to the same school."

From Herring's cumulative statistics it is easy to see why he is so heavily recruited. In his first five games this season, he has amassed 46 tackles (26 unassisted), 13 of which were for losses. Included in these 13 are 5.5 sacks totaling 43 yards in losses; and additionally - an astounding 21 QB pressures. He has also forced a fumble and recovered 3 others; and in his spare time managed to knock down a pass.

The havoc-wreaking DL is currently on schedule to graduate in May, 2004.

Although any decision by him may go down to the wire, getting an "official visit" is BIG; and he does like the possibility of "early playing time" at Tech.
