Lady Raiders Put on an Exhibition

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders saw their first live action of the season as they defeated the Perik Jumpers by a score of 86-32. Freshman Alesha Robertson came of the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points in just 19 minutes.

The Lady Raiders took their first lead of the game 3:27 in, and never looked back. Jia Perkins was the story of the first half. The senior guard came out playing hard and scored 11 points in the first half. Perkins was joined by fellow senior Casey Jackson who scored another 9 points in the half. A slow start by the Lady Raiders led to a 42-25 halftime score.

The second half was nothing short of impressive, as Texas Tech held the Perik Jumpers to just 7 points in the second half. The defensive effort was highlighted by a 14-minute scoreless streak for the Jumpers. The dominating second half gave the Lady Raiders an 86-32 victory.

After the game Coach Sharp said that team was "glad to be able to play against somebody besides each other." Despite the victory, the Lady Raiders do have some trouble areas to address, most notably is their inside play. "We weren't physical enough tonight," said Coach Sharp. Even though the Lady Raiders are trying to be more physical on the inside, they don't expect to be a team that physically dominates in the paint. "We're not going to overpower very many people.

The highlight of the game was the play of Alesha Robertson. Robertson showed an ability to score in several different ways. "The thing we've been impressed about is how many ways she can score," said Coach Sharp. Right now, Robertson is definitely pushing for the starting role. The big question is when Robertson will assume the starting role. She is simply too big of an asset to play a backup role on this team.
