TT Verbal Talks about his Decision

As reported Sunday evening, the Red Raiders added Commitment No. 15 when they received a verbal from Smithson Valley DB/RB Lance Fuller. We have more on this commitment as we also grabbed his thoughts about the decision to become a Red Raider and wanted to bring that to you this morning...

I've always liked Texas Tech," Lance Fuller said, "My dad (Kenny Taylor) played fullback there. And so I've always loved Texas Tech, since I was a kid. And I can't wait to go there.

"After I committed, I called my parents and then my brother," Fuller continued. "My brother (Texas Tech RS-SOPH WR Cody Fuller) said the recruiting coordinator had found him and told him, 'We just offered your brother a scholarship and he took it' and then gave him a high-five. So, he wished me ‘congrats' and everything."

According to the Spring Branch, Texas prep, Red Raider safety coach Johnny Barr saw his most recent game and that the coaching staff later decided to offer him a scholarship.

"I talked to Coach (Charlie) Sadler yesterday at 3:00 p.m.," the 6-1, 195-pounder said. "They offered me then and I committed. He said they couldn't wait for me to get there."

Fuller, a running back this season for Smithson Valley, projects as a safety on the next level...

"I want to play safety," he said. "All the schools recruiting me wanted me to play safety. That's the position I'll be playing and think I'm the best at."

As a junior, Fuller logged heavy minutes in the DB ranks before later moving to the tailback position as a senior. His defensive stats as junior were pretty impressive though.

"I had over 100 tackles, 6 INTs, 2 of those I took back for a touchdown and I also had a kick return for a touchdown."

Senior Stats: 1100 yards rushing, 16 TDs. Defensively, 25 tackles in only two games.

Kid'll bring some speed to the Red Raider secondary as he said he recently clocked 4.51 and 4.53 forty times at the school.

Fuller selected Texas Tech over Air Force, Army and Minnesota...
