Red Raiders defeat UTEP, 70-57

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-2) defeated the UT-El Paso Miners (3-1) by a score of 70-57 to extend their home win streak to 5 games. Senior Andre Emmett led all scorers with 27 points in the game.

The game started off sluggishly, with neither team able to establish much on the offensive end of the court. The Red Raiders did manage to go on a 8-0 run to take a 13-5 lead, but UTEP was able to close the gap and take a 19-18 lead with 4:44 left in the half. The Red Raiders finished the half strong, giving them a 25-21 halftime lead.

Texas Tech was able to find a rhythm early in the second half though. An early 8-0 run gave the Red raiders a 40-27 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. The Miners were able to pull within 7 points, but Texas Tech never let them get closer. the Red Raiders extended their lead throughout the half, giving them the victory by the score of 70-57.

Offense

The offense continued it's struggles in the first half, but managed to pick things up in the second half. Andre Emmett had another great offensive game with 27 points, but more importantly the rest of the team provided some much needed offensive help. When this team is moving and taking good shots instead of watching Emmett, they have shown some good offensive potential. This potential needs to start becoming reliable in the next month if the Red Raiders are going to compete with the top of the Big Twelve.

Defense

Defensively this game was about what you expect from this team. This team does a great job off making other teams uncomfortable, especially on the perimeter. this pressure forces turnovers and bad shots, which with the help of decent rebounding will shut down most teams. The biggest question right now, is if this team can play this type of defense for 40 minutes against the top teams in the conference.
