Lady Raiders move to 11-0

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (11-0) defeated the Stanford Cardinal (7-2) to make their record 11-0, the best start in school history. Freshman Alesha Robertson led all scorers with 18 points in her first start for the Lady Raiders.

Texas Tech scored the first 4 points of the game, but Stanford quickly responded to keep the game close. The Lady Raiders used a 10-1 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. The run gave Texas Tech an 18-8 lead with 9:21 left in the half. The Lady Raiders maintained control to take a 30-21 into the half.

Stanford used a 11-2 run to make the score 38-36 with 10:32 left in the game, but the Lady Raiders answered with a 7-0 run to make the score 45-36 with 7:50 to go in the game. Texas Tech used an 8-0 run to extend their lead to a game-high 15 points. Texas Tech won by a final score of 55-46.

Today's game proved that the Lady Raiders can score when Jia Perkins has an off day. Alesha Robertson had a great first start, scoring 18 points in the game. Jametra Clark scored 11 points in the game. Erin Grant had a good day at the point, dishing out 5 assists. This is the type of offensive balance Coach Sharp wants from this team. Even with the leading scorer only scoring 9 points, the Lady Raiders were able to be productive on the offensive end. It appears that Robertson will continue to start at the three after today's performance.

This was the eighth game in which the Lady Raiders have given up less than 50 points. Three of those games have been against top 20 opponents. Texas Tech is probably playing the best defense in the country right now. The quickness of this defense was already impressive, but as the season progresses, the Lady Raiders are also playing smarter defense. If the Lady Raiders can continue to play defense at this level, this could be a very special season for Texas Tech.
