Darcel McBath Gets Notre Dame Offer; Names Top 4

Darcel McBath (6-0, 175) is one of the more sought after prospects in the Big 12 region as offers continue rolling in from all over the country. We caught up with the Gainesville DB to talk recruiting and to get the scoop on why he cancelled his December 19th visit to Maryland.

"I took some time, sat down and thought about it," McBath said. "If I'm going to play that far away from home, it's going to be for a school like Notre Dame."

The Lone Star State standout said the Fighting Irish met with him at his school and offered him late last week.

"I'm always excited when I receive a scholarship offer," he said. "I'll be visiting their campus on the 23rd of January."

McBath said that his leaders in no particular order are Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.

According to the Texas Top 100 selection, it would be a plus to attend a state school because he'd be closer to home. However, the lure of Notre Dame interests him enough that distance may not be a factor if he really enjoys his visit to South Bend.

Because news seems to be breaking on a weekly basis with the superstar kid, we'll be sure to keep you up to date when necessary.

FYI: His first official visit is slated for Texas A&M (01/09/2004) followed by Texas Tech (01/16/04) and then to Notre Dame 01/23/04).

While we don't want to rule out Oklahoma State, his top three might just be Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Notre Dame. After all, those three are already penciled in for the all-important official visits.

Again, we'll be sure to keep you posted...
