"Coach Holgorsen and McNeill said they liked recruiting Houston athletes and that they're building up the defense," Smith said. "They said they want me to come play defense for them, that I'm aggressive and like to hit people."
"I told my parents that's where I wanted to go," Smith continued. "They said okay."
The state's No. 52-rated prospect said he picked Texas Tech over his other favorites (Texas A&M, Miami, Iowa) because "it's close to home, can get a good education and a chance to start my freshman year."
Meanwhile, having wide receiver and teammate L.A. Reed also in the fold, didn't hurt the Scarlet and Black either...
"That's my boy," said the 6-1.5, 230-pound 'backer. "I've been playing with him for the last few years. They also have David Weems who I played with when I was a sophomore and they signed Danny Amendola too who will be trippin' to Lubbock with me this weekend."
Needless to say, Smith thinks that's a "good deal for us from Houston to play with each other at Texas Tech, it's like family there."
