Current Commit Update: Shannon Woods

Texas Tech verbal Shannon Woods of McKinney North HS rushed for 1,496 yards and 20 touchdowns for the 2003 season. A major pick up for Mike Leach and Co. as they filled their running back need for this year's recruiting class. Oral commitments, however, are non-binding until Signing Day, '04. So what's the latest on Woods?

Raider Power: Are you still a solid Texas Tech commit?

Shannon Woods: Oh yeah, that's where I'm going to be next year.

RP: Are any other colleges still pursuing you?

SW: My dad's handling all of that, but it wouldn't matter anyway. February 4th, I'll be a Red Raider.

RP: Even if another Big 12 power were to give you a call?

SW: Nope, I wouldn't care who it was, I don't want to go to anywhere else.

RP:What do you think about the Tech coaching staff?

SW: It's funny, they're so loose. But you can tell it's all business with them. And their coaches kind of have a swagger -- I like that.

RP: How much playing time do you see yourself getting this year?

SW: I've been told I can get some PT this year but I may red shirt. I'll have to see how it goes this summer.

RP: What do you think the Red Raiders need to do to contend for the Big 12 title this year?

SW: Defense. We have to be able to stop people. Tech was like my high school football team this year. We had to win games 50 to 48. We can't win a Big 12 title without great defense. We're gonna have the O, we need the D.
