Current Commit Update: Deke Bake

Texas Tech has shocked most of the recruiting world this year with the quality of players they've pulled in with several coming from the Golden State, particularly the central valley area of Cali. We checked in with Fresno City sack-artist Deke Bake to see what his intentions are with LOI day only one week away.

The All-State/All-Conference pick in the CVC -- one of the top JC conferences in the nation -- registered 67 tackles, 11 sacks and 24 TFLs. Not too shabby numbers for the 6-5, 250-pound DE.

Bake said he knew "almost right away" that he wanted to land in Lubbock.

"It wasn't a hard decision for me," he said, "Almost right away, I knew I was going there because Coach Sadler and Coach Leach are so committed to the defense. It was an easy decision. I had Washington and Kansas State looking at me, but after my visit to Lubbock in week four of the season, I knew I was going to Tech."

Asked when he'll make it down to the South Plains, he said, "I'll be there on June 3rd or 4th. I'm looking forward to getting my workout and playbook, so I can get up to speed on what's going on there.

The JUCO sack-artist is really pumped about the defense that the Red Raiders are putting together this year.

"It's not just me we are getting, it's all of the Reedley guys too," Bake explained. "Dwayne Slay, Sylvester Brinkley, Charlie Glover and Marcus Campbell, not to mention Robert Johnson who is a great quarterback. We are going to be loaded with experience, as well as the young guys we recruited this year."

The 4-star standout from Rancho Cordova, California, said Red Raider HC Mike Leach and DE coach Charlie Sadler were in town yesterday to go over the dotting of the I's and crossing the T's so he'll be ready to fax his LOI in February 4th.

"I'm so happy to be going to Texas Tech this season and can't wait to go in there and make things happen."
