Red Raiders advance in tournament

The eighth seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders (23-10) won their first NCAA tournament game in eight years with a 76-73 victory over the ninth seeded Charlotte 49ers (21-9). The victory is also Head Coach bob Knight's first tournament win since 1999. Texas Tech used a balanced scoring attack led by Andre Emmett's 20 points to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Texas Tech took control of the game early with a 10-0 run to make the score 13-5 with 13:37 left in the first half. Charlotte kept things close with a 5-0 run that made the score 17-14 with 8:50 to go in the half. The Red raiders scored 14 unanswered points late in the half to extend their lead to 35-20 with 2:01 left in the half. Texas Tech led 39-25 at halftime.

Texas Tech maintained their lead for much of the second half, but Charlotte scored 6 unanswered points to make the score 55-50 with 5:46 left in the game. With the score at 65-60 with just 1:29 remaining in the game, Texas Tech scored 7 straight points to extend their lead to 72-60 with just 25 seconds left in the game. Charlotte scored the final 6 points of the game to make the final score a 76-73 victory for Texas Tech.
