Lady Raiders set to face Lady Techsters

Can the Texas Tech Lady Raiders make it to yet another Sweet Sixteen? If so they will have to beat a fifth seeded Louisiana Tech team.

After a surprisingly tough first round game, the Lady Raiders are looking for a better performance in the second round. Texas Tech's opponent, Louisiana Tech also had a surprisingly close first round game against Montana, who is hosting the subregional. This second round matchup pits two teams that last saw each other in a preseason tournament during the in 2002. That game ended with Louisiana Tech taking a solid victory over the Lady Raiders. Despite the disappointing finish the last time they faced Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech has a great chance of advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.

What are the keys for Texas Tech? It all starts on the defensive end. The Lady Raiders have to slow down the Louisiana Tech front line if they're going to have any chance to win this game. The defensive effort will have to include a solid rebounding effort from the entire Texas Tech team. On the offensive end of the court, Texas Tech will have to find some sort of rhythm. On Saturday the Lady Raiders had a tough time finding a flow on the offensive end, something that wasn't helped by Erin Grant's early foul trouble. Texas Tech needs to go with their strongest offensive threats. Right now that's Erin Grant distributing the ball to Robertson, Dabbs, and Davis. Other players will have to play well, but these three will set the pace on the offensive end.

If Texas Tech can survive the second round, they will have a chance to face Duke, the team that knocked the Lady Raiders out of the NCAA tournament last year. Duke might feature more athleticism than the Lady Techsters, but the Lady Raiders matchup much better with Duke. Duke is a smaller team that will try to outrun most teams. Texas Tech is still one of the top perimeter teams in the country, even with the loss of Perkins.
