Scouting Report: Gainesville RB Terrius Purvey

After viewing video of Terrius Purvey in the 3A state championship against Burnet, he's definitely one of the top backs in state. After reviewing the video with Texas recruiting expert analyst, Stacey Dean, my thoughts are...

Strengths: Is a speedy, tough runner with upside if he continues to add bulk. Shows good burst to hole. Has the speed to turn the corner consistently and shows a second gear when he breaks a run to the outside. Has adequate vision and change of direction without losing much in transition. Has good hands and is a adequate route runner.

Areas To Improve: Needs to add bulk to compete at the collegiate level. Needs to work on lower body strength, doesn't really have the power to move the pile. Is only a marginal pass-blocker. While showing that he does know his assignments, doesn't always make the play, so needs to make some strides in pass protection and blitz pick-up.

Bottom Line: Purvey is a savvy runner who reminds me a litte bit of Oklahoma State's Tatum Bell. He needs to add weight and lower body strength. Has more of a wide receiver body right now, but definitely has the skills/size to play tailback. Could find immediate playing time on special teams, also helping his recruitability.

You MUST pre-register or you will not be able to participate. There will be no last-minute walk-ups. If you're not yet signed up, you're missing out on the most realistic NFL Combine-like event, including the NFL HRT test (NFL aptitude/psyche test) soon-to-be NFLers take, not to mention every drill the NFL Combine puts on and perhaps the most exciting aspect -- position-specific instruction via former/current NFL coaches and/or players. Are you ready to take YOUR game to the next level?
