Texas DT Talks Top Five And Texas Tech

Carrollton Newman Smith DE/DT Jonathan Lewis is holding down seven 'ships. But there are five standing out. We grab a few details from the 6-2.5, 245-pounder regarding that and more...

His top five at this point?

"K-State, Alabama, Arkansas, Wisconsin and A&M," Jonathan Lewis said.

Lewis claims offers from all five and added that they're in good shape with regard to securing one of his five official visit slots, provided the Lone Star State No. 89 takes all five. However, Lewis said, "There's room for some change."

That's good news for Maryland and Tulane, who also offered, but at this time it's the above five leading the way.

Lewis on K-State: "Coach (Bob) Elliott is recruiting me. I really like how their defense gets after it."

On Alabama: "Coach (Bob) Connelly is recruiting me to Alabama. One of my coaches went there, so I know if I went there they'd (Tide coaches) take care of me."

On Arkansas: "When I was young, my favorite team was Arkansas. So, I'm looking at them."

On Wisconsin: "I know one of their safeties (Robert Brooks). He went to my school. And I know it's beautiful up there."

On Texas A&M: "Coach Stan Eggen is recruiting me. I like the tradition they (A&M) have."

The Red Raiders have snagged a couple of DL commitments from Lewisville Hebron's Phillip Jones and Beaumont Ozen's Brian West. But they could go after as many as four. Provided they offer, what exactly is would Texas Tech's shot be with Lewis?

"If they offered, I would consider them. I used to live around Lubbock and I have family that lives there."
