Ishie Oduegwu Has A Blast In Lubbock; Commits

We caught up with the newest Texas Tech commitment, Ishie Oduegwu, to grab his thoughts on his Lubbock weekend official as well as his decision to end the suspense in favor of the Scarlet and Black...

"Man, I just had a blast down there," Ishie Oduegwu said regarding his decision to wrap up the recruiting process. "I've always been cool with Coach (Carlos) Mainord and the defensive coordinator (Lyle Setencich), so I committed."

The State's No. 22 also cited the opportunity to play with friend (and weekend host) Darcel McBath as a reason for picking the Red Raiders over other programs, such as Florida, Kansas State, Nebraska and UCLA...

"Darcel, the players and the coaches at Texas Tech really wanted me there and that meant a lot to me, "Oduegwu said. "And, I think I fit their defensive scheme really, really well and the coaches feel the same way I do."

The DFW area stallion said head coach Mike Leach was just as excited about his decision as anyone else...

"All of the coaches were excited about me just coming up there for a visit -- Coach Leach, Coach Mainord, everybody. The coaches really wanted me there and I knew Saturday night that that was where I wanted to be. I'm done taking official visits. Texas Tech is the place for me."

Asked what position he was recruited to play, Oduegwu said, "They want me at safety. Probably free safety."

Describing his trip to the Hub City as a blast, the 5-9, 185-pound hard-hittin' safety said, "It really was a lot of fun. The best part of the trip was hangin' out with the players. Just kickin' it."

High School Notes: Oduegwu has played in three games, recording 30 tackles, 1 INT and 1 PBU.
