"Edward was very impressed," said Edward Britton's father. "He really liked it. He liked the Nebraska trip and thought that couldn't be topped. But after this weekend, he thought the Tech Trip maxed it."
Asked what exactly did he like about his official visit, Mr. Britton said, "The atmosphere, the fans, the facilities, the coaches -- everything. He's been talking about it a lot this week."
Texas Tech secondary coach Dave Brown is the primary recruiter and he spent some time with the 6-0, 170-pounder. But so did the head man, Mike Leach...
"It was computer geek to computer geek," said Mr. Britton in describing how his son and the TTU head coach hit-it-off. "They really clicked. Edward really enjoyed his humor. He thought he was real down-to-earth. And, he just came away thinking that Coach Leach is brilliant."
Best part of the trip?
"You'd have to ask Edward," Mr. Britton said, "But, for me, I'd have to say visiting with the coaches. And, meeting with Coach Leach. The game didn't go the way I had hoped, but that didn't matter. It was about everything they had to offer and I just really enjoyed myself."
With some pressure to stay in the city and play for Mike Price's UTEP Miners and an early infatuation for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, some wondered just how well Tech stacked up against the competition. Soon enough, we'll all find out, but don't be surprised if the kid from El Paso opts for the Scarlet and Black...
A decision is expected to come, "Any day now."
