'04 Top LB Commit Still In Mix?

2004 Texas Hot 100 Top 30 (and former) Conroe Oak Ridge LB Marcus Smith has spent the last several months working on getting qualified. Listed on the RP Take-Board as a Texas Tech target for the '05 class, Scout.com caught up with him to get the latest details...

"Texas Tech wants me to play for them all four years, and that's what I prefer to do," Marcus Smith explaining his current status said. "So, I've been trying to get qualified."

His most recent attempt to knock out a qualifying test score came just a little over a week ago.

"I took the SAT on November 6th," Smith said. "I think I did a lot better this time. I used to just take the test without studying or anything. But this time I studied more so I think I should pass."

Some nervous Red Raider fans wondered if Smith still considers Tech to be his No. 1…

"My goal is to enroll in the spring at Texas Tech," Smith said, as if it had never been in doubt, "I'm ready to get back out on the field again."

If the 6-1.5, 230-pound MLB (with 4.65 speed) does not grab the test score needed on his latest attempt (Nov. 6), he has two other dates penciled in to attempt to knock out the test score.

"If I have to take the SAT again, I'll take it on December 4th. Also, I have the ACT test set up for December 11th," Smith informed.

That's three more shots and he knows the Red Raider Nation is behind him…

"I should be able to get in."

The chance that he may not is also something Smith has considered.

"If I can't get in this spring, then I'll probably go JUCO. But I don't want to go that route if I don't have to. I've been working out in the weight room, staying in-shape and stuff so I can play at Texas Tech now."
