Todd Walker Talks Texas Tech Commitment

Texas Tech picked up a huge commitment this weekend when Pflugerville QB/WR prospect Todd Walker switched his verbal from Georgia Tech to Texas Tech. We caught up with the Texas Hot 100 No. 14 to get the story...

"In my heart," Todd Walker told, "Texas Tech was the best place for me. They have great fans and great support. My dad played football and graduated from Tech, and I've always been a Tech fan. So I kind of wanted to follow in his footsteps and to try and become the next Wes Welker."

The direction Mike Leach and Co. have taken the Scarlet and Black has had a significant effect on the 6-1, 178-pound athlete as well...

"They're going to major bowl game this year and will play Cal in the Holiday Bowl," Walker said. "So, it's clear to me that Coach Leach has that program moving up. Also, they had a great recruiting class last year and they're having another outstanding recruiting class this year. I wanted to be a part of that and try to help them win a Big 12 championship and from there, you win that, and you can play for a national championship."

Walker, of course, had to break the bad news to Georgia Tech and he said the coaches handled everything with class and wished him good luck.

Asked what TTU head coach Mike Leach had to say, the fastest kid in the Lone Star State (4.3 forty) said, "He was excited. He said I made his day and all of that good stuff. And, said they couldn't wait for me to get down there in the Spring. They were excited."

The 4-star blue-chipper said he's decided to play wide receiver for the Red Raiders and is looking forward to battling for a starting spot when he enrolls in the Spring.

Coaches responsible for landing Walker were "Coach (Dana) Holgorsen and Coach (Charlie) Sadler..."
