Texas Tech Accepts Holiday Bowl Invitation

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Department of Athletics accepted an invitation today to play the California Bears of the Pac-10 Conference in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium on Thu., Dec. 30. Texas Tech (7-4) and Cal (10-1) will square off at 7 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.

"Texas Tech is looking forward to representing the Big 12 Conference in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. San Diego is a great destination for our fans and for our players and we are excited the Holiday Bowl committee selected us. We are looking forward to facing a great program like Cal. Both teams possess two of the most powerful offenses in the country, so the game should be an exciting one for our fans and college football fans everywhere."

The 21st-ranked Red Raiders are making their first trip to the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, while the 4th-ranked Bears also will be appearing at the San Diego bowl for the first time.

"We are excited for this opportunity and appreciate the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl for selecting Texas Tech. Our coaching staff and players are looking forward to facing Cal in San Diego later this month. We owe a great deal a gratitude to our fans for their support throughout the season to help us get to this point, and would like to encourage them to continue that support in San Diego."

The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl will feature the Red Raiders' high-powered passing attack, which ranks first nationally, against another of the nation's top-ranked offenses in Cal. The Red Raiders rank 11th nationally with 35.4 points per game, while the Bears are sixth, averaging 37.3. Cal also is the only team in the country to be ranked among the top six in scoring offense and scoring defense.

Tickets for the game are $60, $54 and $48 through the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office and will be available for purchase on-line at www.texastech.com.

Phone orders and on-line orders will be accepted beginning Mon., Dec. 6, at 8:30 a.m. Bowl tickets will not be available through area Select-a-Seat and United Supermarket locations. Bowl orders through Wed., Dec. 8, will be filled on a priority basis - Red Raider Club members, season ticket holders, then the general public. Ticket locations will be determined by the ticket allotment given to Texas Tech from the bowl.
