Marlon Winn Names A Leader

Scout.com caught up with Marlon Winn of Waxahachie, Texas last night to grab a quick update. Winn, an Oklahoma State soft verbal, is an OL prospect Texas Tech would very much like to add to their 2005 recruiting class. In this interview, Winn names a leader, gives us his time frame for a final decision, talks in-home visits with head coaches, and more...

Marlon Winn, once a solid commitment to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, decided to open up his options and take an official visit to Texas Tech because he lost his head coach and position coach when they left Stillwater for Baton Rouge.

Asked what had him in the OSU fold to begin with, Winn told Scout.com: "Actually, I was really impressed with Coach Les Miles and my OL coach. I liked the academics and the atmosphere."

And his reasons for diggin' TTU?

"I really like Coach Mike Leach," Winn said. "He's a down-to-earth person. And, I like the family environment there, how everyone is real close. The offensive linemen all hang out with each other, and the rest of the team, but the offensive lineman all have a nice bond with each other. The academics are awesome also. Their record and potential to do better, with Graham Harrell there, is awesome."

Winn had his in-home visit with the Red Raider head man yesterday, shortly after we called and had his in-home visit with the new Cowboy O-line coach Wick on Monday.

Asked if he had a leader, Winn's first response was, "I'd say it's about 50-50." Pressed a bit further, Winn said "Texas Tech leads, maybe by just one percent, 51-49. But they're in the lead."

Decision-time frame: "I've been doing a lot of praying. I'll probably do it a few days before Signing Day, or when it comes to me."

Senior Stats: 48 pancakes, zero holding penalties, 1 sack allowed, 2 false starts.

Asked about the sack he gave up, Winn said, "That was the first game of the season against Ennis, and I put him on his butt after that, and knocked his helmet off."

Anyone else diggin' this kid's demeanor as an OL-prospect?
