This talented junior wide receiver is James Battle's primary target. Battle, a highly touted junior quarterback, and Jones are cousins. Both players are "very interested" in Tech.
Jones caught 50 passes for 1,053 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, which helped propel Denton Ryan to the Class 4A state championship.
Thayer's Take: "Philip is one of the top big-play wide receivers in Texas. He's got great speed and tremendous instincts. His ability to run after the catch and outrun defenders would fit very well within Tech's offensive attack."
*****************MARCH 7 UPDATE*******************
JG: What schools are in your top five?
PJ: "Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Colorado and Miami."
JG: How much will James Battle's commitment effect your decision?
PJ: "I think it would be nice to go to the same school, but I'll go to the best place for me."
JG: What are your thoughts on Texas Tech?
PJ: "I like Texas Tech a lot. They have a strong program and continue to get better every year."
JG: Is it important that you commit to a school which runs a spread offense?
PJ: "Yeah, it's important to me. I like to catch the ball a lot, and with the spread offense, receivers get a lot of opportunities to make plays."
JG: What are your expectations for next season?
PJ: "I want another 1,000 yard season, and another state championship."
JG: Thanks for your time and good luck.
PJ: "No problem."
