Collier will take his 4.48-speed to Texas Tech

Texas Tech added their highest-rated verbal thus far when Justin Northwest LB Blake Collier -- the state's No. 24-rated prospect per Scout.com -- pulled the commitment trigger in favor of the Scarlet/Black. He talks about that and more...

"A lot of the Red Raider fans thought I was looking around, for something better, and I wasn't," Blake Collier told Scout.com. "I always liked Texas Tech, that was my school, I just wanted my dad to get a chance to see it, and he did, and I committed. Tell the Red Raider fans I'm looking forward to playing there."

The 6-1, 205-pound linebacker smoked the Scout.com Waco Combine with a 4.48 in the forty. Kid can flat out fly.

"After telling my dad last night that I wanted to commit to Texas Tech, I went up to Lubbock today and told all the coaches that I was committing, the players too and they're all excited about it," Collier continued. "The coaches seem like really nice guys and I just feel like Tech is the best situation for me."

Tech gets an LB with not only mind-boggling speed, but they get a probable 4-star prospect who hasn't even scratched the surface yet in what kind of 'backer he can become. Essentially, you have a former DE who has just one year of experience at linebacker. Once he learns the position, knows what keys to read, knows where he's supposed to be, this kid is going to bring it. That's why we have this kid rated No. 24 in the Lone Star State.

Add to the above a work ethic and a desire to be the best he can be, that makes for an intriguing defensive prospect. Sooner fans fond of what Collier could become were throwing out the name of Teddy Lehman.

Red Raider fans will certainly throw out the name Zach Thomas
