Nelson to Visit Texas Tech this Weekend

Jonathan Nelson is starting to turn a lot of heads in the recruiting circles. A cornerback who stands at 5'11 and weighs 165 pounds, Nelson is a hot recruiting commodity. With 9 offers in hand, Nelson is generating a lot of interest out of Big 12 country and the Southeast. RaiderPower.com caught up with Nelson to see what he had to say.

First it was Jay and John Saldi. Then it was Jim Walker and Todd Walker . Could Brian and Jonathan Nelson be the next father/son duo at Texas Tech?

Nelson, who currently holds offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M, will be tripping to Lubbock this weekend. "I will be heading to Lubbock this Saturday (June 18th)." Nelson's top five are Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas.

When asked about the desire to play early Nelson responded with, "I don't want to be greedy, so I don't expect to be a starting corner my first year. I would like to contribute in some way though. I just want to do whatever I can to help my team." As a matter of fact, Nelson is placing more emphasis on the coaching staff. "I'm looking for a place with great coaches who will work me hard. I want to go somewhere where I know they will push me to be the best player I can be. I also want to be able to relate to the coaches."

Nelson is being recruited by Coach Carlos Mainord, Texas Tech's Safety coach.

Nelson has a rough commitment time frame. "I don't want to make a commitment during the season, so I will either make it before or after." Nelson is also playing his recruitment rather quietly. "I'm not someone who falls for all the hype of recruiting. I want to take my time and find the right place for me."

RaiderPower.com will catch up with Nelson after his visit to see how everything went.
