Potts' teammate is Tech's latest offer

The Texas Tech coaching staff will only be taking a few wide receivers this year and one player special enough to receive an offer from the Red Raider staff is Abilene HS standout Lyle Leong.

Lyle Leong is the type of athlete any school would love to have. He is not only a great wide receiver on the football team; he also won the state high jump last year with a mark of 6'9". With his athletic ability Mike Leach would be able to form him into a very good wide out for the Red and Black.

The 6'2 180 pound wide receiver is excited about receiving his offer from the Red Raiders. "I have loved Tech for a long time and I am very excited about them offering me. They have been at the top of my list for a long time now, so it feels good to receive an offer from them." Lyle isn't quite ready to make a commitment yet, but he said he will make a decision relatively soon. "I would like to decide where I'm going to go before the season starts. I will probably wait through the summer and then make my decision."

Leong would feel right at home here in Lubbock since his current teammate Taylor Potts has already committed to the Red Raiders and his former teammate Kobey Lewis signed with Tech last year. "Taylor and I are good friends and I grew up with Kobey. I have been playing football with Kobey since I was 3 and he was 4. I know I would feel right at home at Tech."

Lyle's offer was extended with the clause that he had to come to Tech as a grey shirt. If Leong accepted his scholarship as a grey shirt, he would sign with Tech in February and join the team just like any other recruit. The only difference would be that he would have to pay his own way through school during the Fall of 2006 and then be placed on scholarship in the Spring of 2007. This would allow the coaching staff to count Lyle's scholarship against the 2006 class instead of the 2005 one. It will also give Lyle another year to develop and learn the ins and outs of Leach's system.
