Tech Whips Longhorns 9-0

<b>Nick Blankenship's</b> grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted <b>Tech</b> past No. 14 Texas 9-0 on Sunday.

The Raiders (17-8, 2-4) loaded the bases on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the first inning vs. Texas (16-6, 2-4). Willie Durazo followed with a double play groundout, which allowed Joel Buchenauer to score from third.

Tech tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by senior catcher Durazo and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from reliever Alan Bomer that put Tyler Carson on first and scored Durazo.

Blankenship delivered the fatal blow with a grand slam on a 1-2 count to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead. It was his second of the season and ninth home run of the year.

Tech added two more runs in the inning thanks to a triple by shortstop Gera Alvarez, an RBI double by Bryon Smith and an RBI single by Jake Brown.

Despite walking five batters in the first three innings, junior Nathan Fouts improved to 5-1 after scattering just four hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Senior Steve Rowe replaced Fouts in the sixth and recorded his second save of the season.
